About Me

2013:

ALMas
"Ayudandoles a Lograr Mas"
"Helping them Achieve More"

Organization’s Purpose
ALMas seeks to help reduce the education-achievement-gap and lack of access to educational capital for Latino children of immigrant-like backgrounds by enhancing literacy development / comprehension and mentorship.  Because we believe every student deserves the same access to the American Dream.

2012:

My name is Marvin Espinoza Jr.

I created this blog to document my training for the 2012 Chicago Marathon, because I needed somewhere to log my mileage, thoughts, and some discoveries.

Plus, it keeps me honest.  Last year, 2012, I ran for St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.

This year, I'm running the Des Plaines 2013 Ultra-Marathon in October fundraising for ALMas, my student organization dedicated to providing an afterschool literacy program for latino pre-k children.

I hope you follow this blog, and I hope it helps you out with tips on running and a little bit on reflections that I think a lot of runners deal with.  I will write about not just my life, my runs, and my observations--but about running in general, about its beauty, its escape, its meaning.  And the pure struggle its puts us through to come out stronger.

And if you have any comments or suggestions, please don't hesitate to e-mail or leave a post.  I will reply and give you my honest opinion or help direct you to any resource.

I hope you enjoy the run.  I know I will.  And if you take away something from my writing, I'm happy.  And please let me know!

Otherwise, Train Hard.  Run Fast.

"The miracle isn't that I finished.  The miracle is that I had the courage to start."

-John Bingham, "The Penguin"

  1. Marvin - you should also say that 'almas' means 'souls'. You're helping folks realize what's in their souls! Keep up the great work <3
